This past Saturday was the quint essential fall day in Vermont. The sun was shining and the temperature was in the low 70’s. Just perfect. There are so many options of what you can do on these beautiful fall days here in VT but I think I made just the right choice. Hiking….. Nope. Biking….. Nope. Harvest Festivals….. Nope. Winery..... Yes!
Boyden Valley Winery is situated in Cambridge Vermont on a sprawling 100+ acre piece of land surrounded by pasture and mountains. We started our visit at Boyden with their wine tasting menu. Choose 7 wines for the tasting and keep the wine glass it is served in all for $10.00. I chose to try their Seyval Balc and their Cow Tipper for my white wine choices. Both were delicious however I gave the “Cow Tipper” two thumbs up. It was my favorite. I also tried their Rose La JuJu which was also a two thumbs up for me. Out of the red wine choices I chose to try the Big Bard Red which was very good and I would highly recommend. I also tried two different selections of their hard cider options, one called Vermont Ice Hard Cider and the other called Cran-Bog Cider which is new for them. They were both equally good, I think I would put the Cran-Bog slightly ahead of the Vermont Ice Hard Cider. In addition to those I tried their Ice Wines and more specifically I tried the one called Vermont Ice. Some people enjoy Ice Wine but I found it very thick in consistency and very sweet. I couldn’t recommend it and actually couldn’t even finish my sample.
After the wine tasting we purchased the cheese platter which came with 7 cheeses, grapes and baguette bread for $16.99. We also grabbed a bottle of their Cow Tipper and went outside on their patio for some wine and cheese. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
If you are looking for a fun way to spend a fall afternoon make the trip to the Boyden Vineyard. You will not be disappointed.
