If you like cabins, check out National Geographic's new show Building Wild , where a group of builders put together interesting cabins for clients all over the United States. Two recent episodes included a modern two-level cabin built directly over a stream with slight waterfall, the other built of large stones from a quarry with and enclosed, insulated wood framing.
Today, the episode was local -- they built a tree-house cabin in a Maple tree in Southern Vermont. The cabin builders do things a little differently -- they have clients help through the first ninety-percent of the build process -- leaving the last ten-percent for the final reveal to the client, and they do it all in five days. It's a unique take on a traditional activity.
If you're looking for something more basic, there are plenty of local contractors and companies that will put together or have pre-built cabins. Purchasing land will likely be as expensive if not more than the cabin, depending on a number of factors, so maybe the easiest for you is to buy land that already has a cabin. Either way, it's a cabin in the woods.
