As we progress through December here in Vermont, we all know what is just around the corner. The days of walking outside and having your face freeze instantly, your hands go numb and your breath almost taken away. With these frigid temperatures approaching quickly, you want to make sure your home is ready for it, and the best thing you can do is make sure your heating system doesn't leave you out in the cold and with an empty wallet.
You don't want to come home from a fabulous winter getaway and find your heating system has failed and your water lines frozen in your home...which could lead to even bigger problems. A few items to jump on before the arctic temps blow in will be well worth the time.
First, make sure to change your filter in your furnace to allow for proper air flow (this is the biggest and easiest service check to do), also, check the batteries in your smoke detectors and thermostats. Next, if you have intake and output lines, make sure they are free of debris so your system can breath freely, and keep the area around your furnace free from all personal belongings. You may also look into a mechanical company that inspects and tests furnaces and have them come in for a once over it you are not familiar with the system.
Little things can go a long way to get you through the wonderful winter land that is Vermont this season.
