Starting the New Year off on the right healthy foot is a great goal! A couple of years ago I made the decision to take control and step up for my health. This was not an easy step to take but I was at a point of no return for myself. My weight had gotten out of control. At my highest weight I was 165 lbs which was set on my 5’1 body. I felt unhealthy inside and out and emotionally was a wreck. My self-esteem was terrible and literally every time I looked in the mirror I wanted to cry. Something had to change. I started out with reading a couple great books. The first I read was called The Virgin Diet by JJ Virgin. This book talks about food intolerance's and asks you to eliminate 7 foods that many people could have sensitivity to but realize it. The foods are dairy, eggs, soy, gluten, peanuts, corn, sugar and artificial sweeteners. Once you eliminate them for a period of time you would introduce each food one at a time and see how your body reacts. In following this I found that I immediately felt better with all these foods out of my system. It was hard to introduce any back into my diet actually. In addition to this I decided that I really had no desire to eat meat any longer. I am a huge animal lover and my thought process always came back to the fact that I really didn’t NEED to eat meat. My body didn’t need it for any reason, I could get protein from other non-animal sources. Cutting out meat also helps you eliminate all the other foods that you used to eat when you had meat on your plate. At least for me, potatoes, rice and bread often accompanied the meat dish that was the center piece to our plates. Now its salads and vegetables or soups that are the main part of my dish and it feels great. Lastly, I discovered making juice or “juicing” as I often refer to it as. Juicing packs so many vital minerals and vitamins into each nutrient packed, tasty drink. Every day now, I make juice for both my husband and myself. I make juice of all colors but do include lots of green drinks. My orange varieties are a combination carrots, oranges and ginger. Red ones are a combo of beets, apple and some greens along with a lime and ginger. And the king of the juices are my green drinks which combine kale, romaine, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, lemon or lime, ginger and apple to sweeten them up. Each and every ingredient add so much to your body. We also make and take a ginger shot each morning, just ginger and apple juiced. This is an anti-inflammatory power shot and really helps my husband with his knee pain. I should mention, since starting to juice my husband has gone from weighing 265lbs to 212lbs and feels amazing and looks great too! I'm now at 112 lbs and feel healthy, clear minded and happy! A great resource for juicing that I follow is Kris Carr. She has a website as well as a great book called Crazy Sexy Diet. I challenge you to step up for your health!
